Thanks so much for posting this Victoria, re-reading it has taken me right back to my very own Summer of Love! We’ve been back to Scotland in summer several times since – same deal every time, by the way, with the weather – but we both remember this trip very fondly. And Elaine has now stopped asking me when she will be in any of my travel stories and started asking me when she gets her own book.

Lovely to read this story here – it’s particularly close to my heart as I’m the Elaine Jules is writing about!! It’s a rather wonderful and special thing to have your very own story in a book, and so great to see it published here too. And it’s in good company – the others in the book are just as good I promise.

“Your own story in a book”—that’s what memoir writing is all about. Lovely story here. We visited Scotland in summer. I don’t remember rain, but I do recall the lovely scenery, including thistles and roses.

Oh my what a wonderful story, Jules. I have a wee lump in my throat from reading it. You’re a lucky man to have such an Elaine! Wonderful…and I love Pom and the Toksies!

I loved reading this story again, the description of Pom the Taxi driver and what she did to vowels just makes me laugh! I can hear that accent so clearly! I’s just a shame that you didn’t have good weather but an Irish lass wouldn’t mind o much as it’s very similar if marginally warmer rain in Ireland.
